White walls.

How did I get here?

White ceiling.

Why is it so cold right now?

White lights.

Why are they so damn bright?

Cerulean water.

Oh, right. The accident.

Cerulean eyes.

That boy! He saved me!

You shoot up from the bed you're in, quickly recognizing the scene of a typical hospital laid out in front of you. Monitors beep softly around you, and chatter is vague outside the door across from you. Crisp white sheets are clenched within your fists, though they loosen quickly as blood rushes to your head and you're forced to lie back down.

Your first thought as a dull, heavy ache courses through both your legs-- one side noticeably more intense than the other-- is that you won't be able to train anymore. It's that realization that brings frustrated tears to your eyes, and the pain is simply an afterthought.

The nurse comes in. You can't bear to listen to her; the only part you're fully able to grasp is that you'll be in a wheelchair for the next little while, and at least one leg will require surgery.

"It could be worse," she says, and you know that-- if he hadn't found you, it could have meant death for you, and you don't want to take life for granted-- but it was a stupid accident. A stupid mistake, because you were being stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

She means well, but you're relieved when she exits the room and leaves you to your thoughts. The medication is getting to you again, and you're getting sleepy.

Tears stream down your face into a white pillow, but you see something on your bedside table that you hadn't before-- a vivid cerulean flower, bringing colour to your desolate room.

You smile, and let exhaustion take over.

You're still getting used to this whole wheelchair thing, but you've found ways to adapt to it. Your mother has recently moved to Twinleaf Town, so you've taken up residence there. At least for now, you can train by Lake Verity.

It's your philosophy that as a trainer, you should be working just as hard as your Pokémon in order to truly sync. Though you don't have the speed of your Rapidash, nor the strength of your Machoke, you run and lift weights just the same, albeit at your own pace. The accident has really compromised your ability to do so, however.

The weeks drag on, and though you use training to stay out of your funk, the frustration is always there, lingering.

You never ended up meeting your savior, after all. He'd taken command of your Pokémon to help save you, and lead them presumably to the hospital for treatment.

All you remember is his strong, but gentle voice as you'd drifted in and out of consciousness. And his eyes, bright and blue, filled with the same warmth and concern.

When you lose focus, you look to the lake. And just like sparkling cerulean irises, it gives you comfort.

If all goes well, the hospital says it's your last week on the wheelchair, and soon after, you'll be able to move past the crutches. Besides physical therapy and training, you've been helping Professor Rowan with some research at his lab-- with the experience you have, it's the least you can do.

You're compiling some particularly interesting data on some new Pokémon found in the area, when he walks in and his eyes meet yours.

"You!"

"You!"

It's all you can say, and you're embarrassed at the tears flowing from your eyes; from all the emotions you've kept inside while trying to forget about the accident.

He's just as you remember him-- radiating empathy and compassion, lighting up the instant he recognizes you.

"I--I'm sorry I never had the opportunity to visit you! My friend Pearl called me to help him with something across the region, and--"

He's speaking to you as if you're an old friend that he's been worried about all this time, so you can't help but laugh,

"Why are you apologizing? You literally saved my life."

He blushes and smiles, looking shyly at the floor as he holds his hat in his hands and reveals soft raven locks.

"I just wanted to make sure you were okay. All you kept asking me was if your Pokémon were okay, and I really admired that about you. I didn't think I'd actually find you back here."

That takes you by surprise-- you don't exactly remember saying that while you were losing consciousness, but you did remember worrying about them.

"Well, thank you. I've been meaning to say that, and I've finally found you."

You finally don't feel tense for the first time in a while, and you can't look away from his eyes. It intimidates him, yet he can't help but feel drawn to you.

"So, what can I call my knight in shining armor?"

"Oh, I--I forgot to introduce myself," he sticks a hand out awkwardly, "I'm Dia."

"(Y/N)," you respond simply, firmly gripping his hand.

He seems to be pondering something, then after a deep breath, musters up the courage to ask,

"L-listen. I'm around town for the next week, and I think you've been working really hard and deserve a break. Would you come check out the new café with me sometime this week?"

He's visibly surprised that he's said all that so smoothly. Professor Rowan interjects,

"Be careful, (Y/N)," he laughs softly, "if you pay for the meal, you'll be paying for everything in the café."

He shrugs, and you giggle,

"It'd be my pleasure."

He looks at you, eyes glimmering with hope, and finally, you can look back.
